The educational setting is not only a place in which to realize current academic achievement, it is also an environment in which to practice improved behavior and study skills for the future. To this end, school faculty members utilize both Cognitive-Behavioral and Reality Therapy approaches. Cognitive-Behavioral management allows students ownership in the process of their behavioral change. Reality Therapy asks students what they are doing, guides them to evaluate present behavior, helps them discover alternative positive behaviors and helps them commit to using the alternate behavior.

Graduation, Testing, Transfer of High School Credits and College Credits. The Stanford Achievement Test (SAT) is given each spring. With the guidance and support of the educational staff, students may also research career interests and post-secondary educational options while with our program. The Woodcock-Johnson III test in reading and math, and the WIAT II test in writing, is administered to each student upon entering Three Springs Middle and High School. A post-test is given every six months and the minimum goal is one year of gain for each year of study. Generally the students meet, and frequently exceed, this goal.

Since Sequel TSI of North Carolina is a SACS/CASI-accredited school, the credits earned by your child may be transferred to his home school once he leaves the program. Older children have opportunities to earn a diploma from Sequel TSI of North Carolina and to attend traditional graduation ceremonies. Students may also pursue and obtain a General Equivalency (GED) Diploma. This is an option in many cases where residents are older and have very few credits. Students may also earn credits online from Central Carolina Community College and Brigham Young University.

Library. The campus library provides students with a wide variety of reading material. Program staff members ensure that reference materials, periodicals and books are current and relevant to students’ interests and coursework; reference materials and periodicals are also available on CD-ROM. Also located on campus is a well-equipped computer lab with secure, monitored Internet access for student research.

Success. Success for children attending the Sequel TSI of North Carolina School can be defined in numerous ways. For many children the educational experience provides opportunities for them to move to their grade levels, resulting in an overall improved attitude toward school and learning. For older children the opportunity to earn high school diplomas and to advance to institutions of higher learning is critical to success.

The success of the educational program at Sequel TSI of North Carolina is evidenced by the accomplishments of our graduates. Several have continued their post-secondary educations at prestigious colleges and universities including the University of North Carolina and Duke University.

In addition to gaining educational preparation, teens who complete the Sequel TSI program gain the emotional maturity to handle the rigors and independence of more traditional learning environments. They also learn to work independently as well as in a group setting, and to demonstrate the ability to cope with the setbacks that can occur during a lifetime of learning.
